Friday Fives | Casting the Marauders

As per usual, I started Friday Fives back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to Friday Fives instead to have more room for topics.

Along with most people in the world, I have a love/hate relationship with She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and I’ve been having a difficult time reading and/or watching anything Harry Potter related (fanfiction not included because the best way to piss off her is to read Drarry fanfic). But I also don’t want her to ruin the books that I grew up with and what they mean to me. Easier said than done. And at this point, I may have to accept that they’ll always be ruined. For today, I’m going to think about who I would cast if we had a Marauders era movie/series.

Sophie Lillis, known for IT & I am Not Okay With This

I definitely think she could pull of Lily Evans fiery attitude and she also has blue eyes like Daniel Radcliffe keeping with the whole “you have your mother’s eyes.”

Finn Wolfhard, known for Stranger Things

If he doesn’t give off Sirius Black vibes, I don’t know who does!

Rohan Chand, known for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

Yes, I am one of those people who has the headcanon that Harry (and his dad) are Indian and you’re not going to convince me otherwise.

Jacob Tremblay, known for Room & Wonder

Jacob is an amazing actor and could play Remus so well!! And he just has that adorable, geeky vibe that Remus has too.

Jaeden Martell, known for Defending Jacob, IT, and The Book of Henry

Martell just has that thing of being able to play a morally grey character.

Okay, yes some of these actors are not British, don’t at me, I went mostly with actors that I knew. Also, I wanted to keep the actors ages to at the oldest 19 because let’s all remember that James and Lily were 21 when they died. THEY WERE LITERAL CHILDREN THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THEIR TRAGIC DEATHS! So, what do you think of my casting? What would be your casting for a Marauders era series/movie.

Friday Fives | Characters Coffee Orders

As per usual, I started Friday Fives back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to Friday Fives instead to have more room for topics. If anyone wants to join me, the list for future topics can be found here.

I was going to do books with coffee on the cover, but apparently I don’t read a lot of those (any). So, I’m changing this to what I think a character’s coffee order would be. Enjoy (with a cup of coffee or tea)!

  1. Hermione Granger: a hot, venti, americano, she needs something classy but that will still keep her up
  2. Harry Potter: I see Harry going for a drink that has some coffee but mainly contains sugar (and ignoring Hermione’s concerns about the sugar content and what will happen with his teeth) by getting a java chip frappuccino
  3. Luna Lovegood: She’ll get the vanilla sweet cream nitro cold brew but be very upset that they don’t have a lavender cold brew.
  4. Remus Lupin: venti, blonde roast coffee, he knows this provides the most caffeine
  5. Neville Longbottom: a dirty chai latte, the chai latte reminds him of the tea his grandma used to make and he needs the espresso to keep up with all the kids at Hogwarts.

#FridayFives | Characters You Want to Punch in the Face

As per usual, I started #FridayFavorites back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to #FridayFives instead to have more room for topics. If anyone wants to join me, the list for future topics can be found here.

Mick Riva is so annoying and entitled and I cannot stand him! I was super happy that Brandon went and crashed his car, and I was so happy that Nina finally stood up to him.

Ben’s parents who deserve a good punch to the face and maybe a kick as well. If you can’t handle a child being LGBTQIA+, has a disability, or will grow up to form their own opinions, here is some free advice: DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN!

Tessa’s brother, Nathaniel, definitely deserves a punch in the face (it’s been a while since I’ve read the book, so he may have gotten one)! But you betray your own sister because her parentage is that of a demon, something she had no control over!

Severus Snape definitely deserves a punch or two! His “love” for Lily is NOT at all romantic and the line “Always” needs to stop being something that people latch on as something sweet! It’s gross, and he’s just an incel!

Jianzhu is such an ass throughout the whole book! He makes wrong decision after wrong decision, and he thinks he knows best out of everyone. Gah!?! I just wanted to give him a swift kick!

TTT | Fictional Crushes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly topic hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.

Ah, who doesn’t spend time wishing their fictional crushes were real? I know I do, and I know these characters give me unreasonable expectations, but I do not care!

Rangi from The Rise of Kyoshi is too adorable for words! She’s so loyal and loving towards Kyoshi and ugh, how can I not love this sweet firebender!

Oh, Gideon! I just want to wrap her up in a blanket and just let her know how amazing she is.

Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter series is so badass, and I just love strong, independent women who know how to stand up for themselves.

Alice Cullen is quirky and weird and I’m all about someone being themselves, so how could I not have a crush on her! I definitely wasn’t reading or watching Twilight for the awesome storytelling!

Again, a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need a man! We’re not going to look to hard into this either, okay? Okay!

I specifically had a crush on Celaena Sardothien, not Aelin! I’m not a huge fan of how her character has turned out, but Celaena is a total badass who I also want to wrap in a blanket and give all the cuddles to!

“I am no man!” Need I say more?

Okay, yeah, I may have a type because Verity/Julie is also a total badass! I’m still upset over this novel!

Elle Jones is another quriky character that I just absolutely love! She knows who she is and what she wants to do and goes after it. I also think we’d just have a lot of amazing conversations.

I absolutely love a woman with a brain and Elizabeth Bennet not only has one, but she’s feisty and knows how to use said brain.

#FridayFives | Top 5 things you need to head to Hogwarts

One of these days I’ll get back on top of posting these along with other blog posts. Today is not that day!

In honor of the Hogwarts train leaving Platform 9 3/4 on Sept. 1st, I thought it’d be fun to list the top 5 things I need for the upcoming school year or the last half of the year (TERFs need not respond to this please and thank you).

A journal, I never really leave the house without a journal, so I’d definitely need on on the train and for the upcoming school year. I write thoughts, poems, story ideas down all the time.

A good coffee supply (or travel mug) is always essential but especially during those first few days, week or so, when the students are back and needing to chug down coffee quickly to be on time to the meetings and such.

Due to the continual pandemic (wear a damn mask and get vaccinated!), I definitely stocked up on some hand sanitizer. I love working with students, but I don’t trust them to not be vessels of germs.

A good planner! This can be whatever works for you. There are many different ones out there now and find the best system for you. (This is not sponsored AT ALL but I love Plum Paper planners for the fact that there planners are completely customizable).

Books! I mean a train ride gives me enough time to read a book plus I definitely will need some throughout the year.

Happy Reading Darlings!

Note: I want to make it perfectly clear that I do not support the author of Harry Potter nor do I support any TERFs! If you are one, please find the nearest exit. I have yet to be able to read or watch Harry Potter since the author’s unfortunate blog post in summer 2020. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to. I’ve heard about buying used to not give her more money, but this goes beyond that. I’m trying not to let her take away the childhood that gave me so much escape and love and it’s been difficult to not let that happen. Anyway, ramblings are over!

TTT | Books I Loved that Made Me Want More Books Like Them

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly topic hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.

Today’s topic covers books that made me want to read more books like this. This could be books in that genre, time period, place, etc.

I recently finished this book where half of it was set during the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot. This definitely made me want to read more books on the Tulsa Riot of 1921 and to learn more about what happened since my schooling failed to tell me about this!

Not that this is my first gothic novel, but it definitely made me want to read even more gothic novels and gothic novels that were not always set in England.

I just wanted to read all the novels set in New Orleans! I still do actually. And it doesn’t matter the time period.

Kate Moore’s storytelling of a real life event was so compelling that I want to read more nonfiction.

I became obsessed with WWII novels after reading The Book Thief, and I haven’t stopped reading WWII novels since.

Retellings of classic novels, fairytales, anything has become a favorite genre of mine since reading Jane Steele.

First read The Secret Scripture in undergrad and wanted to read all books set in Ireland and any books about Ireland. It became such an obsession that I focused on Irish Literature in my English Master’s degree.

I’m not a fan of romance focused books but I absolutely fell in love with them after Boyfriend Material. I realized I just don’t like hetero romance stories, so any LGBTQ+ romance, I’m all here for.

YA murder mysteries are always so fun because they have pretty good storylines with not as much at stake (and not as much gore).

HP was my introduction into fantasy and made me fall in love and want to read more. I was 7 at the time, so I don’t really remember if I read any other fantasy books before this one.

Happy Reading, Darlings!

#FridayFives |Best Moments from the Harry Potter Series

I started #FridayFavorites back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to #FridayFives instead to have more room for topics. If anyone wants to join me, the list for future topics can be found here.

In honor of the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2nd, I’ve decided today’s topic will be some of the best moments from the series.

Hermione Punching Malfoy – I mean can anyone say iconic!

Neville being awarded 10 Points at the end of First Year – I absolutely love Neville and his growth throughout the series is just wonderful! That first year though when he was awarded the 10 points that let Gryffindor win was amazing, not just for the fact that Gryffindor won the house cup, but for what Dumbledore said about it.

“There are all kinds of courage,” said Dumbledore, smiling. “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom.”

Finding out about the Prophecy – After the fight at the Ministry of Magic, Dumbledore finally tells Harry about why Voldemort targeted him. About the prophecy and everything that Harry must do going forward to end this war. I know this may seem a strange one to include because it’s not really a happy scene but I love it for the history we find out about. For the knowledge we gain in this scene is so important for the rest of the series, that I’m still pissed it wasn’t included in the movie.

Hagrid getting Hedwig for Harry’s Birthday – I’m sorry but that scene just makes me so happy because it’s the first actual gift Harry has ever gotten on his birthday!

Platform 9 3/4 – The scene with Harry and Dumbledore talking after Harry sacrifices himself in the Forbidden Forest. Again, it’s one of those scenes where everything comes together in the end. Where you understand more about Dumbledore and everything he did, along with his relationship to his family and Grindelwald. There’s also a quote in that scene that I also love:

“It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.”

Happy Reading Lovelies!

Honorable Mention: The best line from the last movie delivered by the amazing Helen McCrory!

May you rest in peace, 1968-2021

TTT | Places In Books I’d Love to Live

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly topic hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.

Oh, there are so many places I’d love to live than this world that we’re living in now.

  1. Hogwarts – only if I can live in a world that is not filled with TERFs because I’m not about that life
  2. The Shire – oh to live a life in a Hobbit hole with a nice cup of tea and some good food sounds absolutely lovely!
  3. Havenfall (from the Havenfall by Sara Holland) – this sounds absolutely amazing to live at Havenfall and see all these different cultures
  4. Hawthorne House (from The Inheritance Games) – I really just want to explore this mansion because it sounds wonderful!
  5. Winterfell – I absolutely love cold weather, and I think if I lived in Westeros, if I wasn’t already in the North, that is were I would immediately go! Especially if Sansa was Queen already!
  6. Rivendell – I mean it’s absolutely gorgeous and the architecture is just amazing!
  7. New Beijing (The Lunar Chronicles) – I would just love to see how the world has changed since this time period
  8. Isadora’s House – it’s been so long since I’ve read The Chaos of Stars, I can’t remember if the house was the actual temples. Whether it is or isn’t, I just would love to live there to see the Egyptian gods and the temples (yes, I know I could visit the temples in Egypt but to meet the gods would be amazing).
  9. Pemberley Manor – I mean I’m such a huge Jane Austen fan I would love to live at Pemberley just to experience life there
  10. Panem – I wouldn’t want to live but maybe a visit. But I also wouldn’t want people to see or notice me, so I’d want to be there as a ghost or something. Like New Beijing, I would want to visit to see what the future world could be.

#FridayFives | Fanfiction Couples

I started #FridayFavorites back when I started up the blog again and wanted to make sure I kept at least one regular post a week. This was, of course, before I knew there were others out there. But I decided to keep it, especially since I have the whole year planned out. In December, I decided to change it to #FridayFives instead to have more room for topics. If anyone wants to join me, the list for future topics can be found here.

With today’s topic, you don’t have to read fanfiction to participate. What I really mean with this topic is what couples from literature would you have wanted to be together but weren’t in the book(s).

  1. Hermione & Draco (or Pansy): Is it cheating to include two different people that I would’ve wanted with Hermione? Maybe. But I don’t care. I’ve always thought when reading the books that Hermione needed someone to challenge her but also be there to say you’ve been at this project for five days with no sleep, go to bed! I’ve just never thought Ron could be that for her. With either Draco or Pansy, she is allowed to be challenged and cared for in the way she needs.
  2. Zélie & Amari (from Children of Blood and Bone): Okay, I absolutely loved how the relationship between Zélie and Amari came about. From hatred to unwilling travel companions to friends, by the end of the first book. I haven’t read the second book in the series because life (plus, I need to re-read the first one). I just thought there was a lot of chemistry between these two young women and would’ve loved if there was a romantic relationship explored between them.
  3. Verity & Maddie: I love, love, love the friendship between Verity and Maddie and am not upset that their relationship was only a friendship. BUT, I would’ve loved if there was more there because I definitely can see it happening between them, especially with everything they’ve gone through.
  4. Natasha Romanoff & Maria Hill: I know they’re not in the movies a lot, but I do not care! I love them and think they would be great together. They would totally kick ass and take names.
  5. Monica Rambeau & Darcy Lewis: As soon as Monica and Darcy had there first interaction, I was gone! I absolutely am here for this ship and want more scenes with them. I’ve always been a big fan of Kat Dennings (and her character Darcy) and am in love with adult Monica. I hope there’s more of them and that Marvel will stop being so heteronormative.

TTT | Characters Whose Job I Wish I Had

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly topic hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provide a topic and you are free to use that topic and/or variations of that topic to make your top ten list. A full list of the weekly themes can be found here.

Today’s topic is characters jobs I wish I had or ones I wish I could have because of the people/coworkers. I’m doing a mix of both, and I did cheat a bit by including a show/movie (technically, the movie(s) are also comics).

  1. Camp Half-Blood Director or Assistant Director….maybe even an archery teacher. I guess I’d have to learn archery for that but details, details. I think it would just be fun to help demi-god children and also be super snarky to Dionysus.
  2. Head of an Institute, specifically London’s cause I want to live anywhere but America right now. Also, I definitely want to hang out with Jem, Charlotte, Will, Tessa and the rest of the characters.
  3. Crew member on the Wayfarer. I recently finished reading A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, and I never wanted it to end for the fact that I absolutely loved all the characters.
  4. Okay, I was trying not to include a Harry Potter reference for once, but I can’t seem to hold back. I’d really love to be a librarian in the magical world. Yes, I know that’s what I’m going for now, but I really want to know about their system and how things works and what happens and their library science programs and all the things!
  5. A superhero or a superhero manager. I just really want to be friends with the Avengers!
  6. A spy in the resistance, and this can be taken from any of the many World War II novels I’ve read.
  7. A teacher at Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality. What can I say? Teaching girls to be spies sounds just perfect for this modern day feminist!
  8. Librarian at the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. I mean this one is kind of obvious for someone like you.
  9. A doctor of forensic medicine a la Audrey Rose Wadsworth from Stalking Jack the Ripper. I could totally see us being friends, plus I’m all about mysteries. (Side note: I was planning on being a medical examiner. However, you have to go through med school, and I faint at the sight of blood. Dead people? No problem! Alive? I’m outta there!).
  10. A Companion to the Doctor, specifically Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor. I would also take Peter Capaldi’s Doctor as well. Either way I want all of time and space to explore!
